Iphone 1st generation? smartphone

OK so I bought an iPhone 1st generation of eBay. I must not have read the description right because I thought it was unlocked. Its not. So now I need to know how to unlock it. It doesn't have a similar card either. I asked some people and they said I can't unlock it because it doesn't have a contract. Can anyone help me?
